MANDALAS (2009-Ongoing) encompasses several series of digital photographic montages that take, as its basic visual premise, the restructuring of banal, observational documentary photographs into kaleidoscopic abstractions. This process of repetition, reflection, and rotation removes an already fragmented, tightly framed subject further from its original context towards renewing its sense of unity. A new logic for the image, and by extension the subject depicted, is activated through such visual play. The image is a mandala: a point of meditative focus, an opportunity to shift and expand one's understanding of the original form or moment.
